Stagnant Growth
Stagnant Growth [1]
Stagnant Growth [1] is a more literal investigation into the structural tension between the human desire for order and the natural inevitability of chaos. In this piece, individual flageolet beans have been cast into sheets of ordered rows, mechanically repetitive in their layout. This order slowly disintegrates as the piece builds, conforming to the natural variability of the materials used in its construction, as well as to the slow disintegration of the molds. The tower built from these sheets is precariously supported by the strength of steel and plastic; an orderly stack transformed into a mound by the variable shapes and properties of its components.
