Containment

The Containment series seeks to reinvestigate the boundaries between “container” and “contained” by examining the interactions and reactions of industrial and agricultural materials. The works within this series mingle plastic – usually the outer skin of a container – with the more “organic” contents within, such as flour or corn meal. Through this process, the “artificial” materials become fused with the “natural” in such a way as to make the two inseparable and indistinguishable; a blending which has already become a conventional part of contemporary farming practices. These works employ the simple forms of bags and sacks – the basic means of food transportation and display worldwide – to explore the intertwined nature of modern agriculture and industry.
